Privacy policy
Buzzword is a daily word game. You can play without an account. If you sign in, we store only what we need to put your score on the leaderboard.
If you play without signing in
Your progress for the day is saved in your own browser so a refresh doesn’t lose your place. It isn’t sent to us, and nothing about you goes on the leaderboard.
If you sign in
You can sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with your Google account. We store:
- Your email address, to sign you in. It is never shown to other players.
- Your name and profile photo from Google, if you sign in with Google. We use your name only to suggest a leaderboard name, and we don’t display your photo.
- The leaderboard name you choose. This is public.
- Your daily results: your score, the difficulty you picked, how many words you solved and when you finished. Your scores and totals are public on the leaderboard, next to your leaderboard name.
When you sign in, your browser also stores a sign-in token so you stay signed in until you sign out.
How we use it
We use this information only to sign you in, show the leaderboard and announce monthly winners. We don’t sell your information, show ads, use it for advertising, or send you marketing email. The only emails you’ll get from us are the sign-in codes you ask for.
Services we rely on
These companies handle data on our behalf so Buzzword can run:
- Supabase, which stores accounts and scores and handles sign-in.
- Resend, which delivers sign-in emails.
- Google, if you choose Google sign-in. Google’s own privacy policy covers what happens on its sign-in screen. Our pages also load their typeface from Google Fonts.
- jsDelivr, which delivers the code library the sign-in uses.
- Domain.com, which hosts the website.
Like most websites, these services may briefly keep technical logs, such as your IP address and browser type, to keep things running and secure.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and scores until you ask us to delete them. Past months’ results stay so that monthly winners can still be shown.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the information we hold about you. Deleting your account removes your email, leaderboard name and all your scores. To make a request, email buzzwordsupport@gmail.com from the address you sign in with.
Children
Buzzword isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has signed up, contact us and we’ll delete the account.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
